  • 4 min read

Goose Island Cabin, located in Oregon, Illinois and United States, can accommodate up to 8 guests. It has a 1 bedroom, 3 bed, 1 bathroom. The cabin, built in 1907, is located on a picturesque stretch of Rock River. A 2,300-acre State Forest surrounds the cabin. Goose Island Cabin got its name from the small offshore island. The cabin is very private, yet only 10 minutes from Portland. You will have access to 60 acres of private land, 200 feet riverfrontage and boating. There is also a large yard with hammocks, games and a well-equipped, rustic, but authentic settler’s cabin. If your pet is well-behaved, you can bring them.

This cabin has a rustic charm that is difficult to ignore. Many Native Americans lived in the area until 1830. The protected forests, as well as the great fishing, were also popular with them. In 1855, the land was deeded for the first time to a settler. The cabin was built by 1907. It is rustic, even though it has electricity, hot water, a shower/bathroom, and a full kitchen. This cabin is great for art retreats, writing retreats and hiking.

There is a loft, a bedroom, a living room with a fire place, an 8-foot dining area, a kitchen equipped with a stove/oven and refrigerator, plus many other amenities. The fireplace, bedroom and loft all have three queen/full beds. The living room has a leather sofa, there are 2-day beds by the windows and you can set up tents and cots. In the yard that overlooks a river, there are many hammocks. The living room is equipped with fans, whereas the bedroom has air conditioning.

You will receive the directions and codes of entry upon making a reservation. Moreover, you’ll have exclusive access to both the riverfront and the surrounding forests. White Pelican, in Oregon, offers shuttle services and canoe/kayak renting. Lowden-Miller State Forest, located nearby, has many miles of trails. The cell service is generally limited to Verizon and US Cellular (AT&T is spotty) and there’s no wifi. The river below is a very fast moving one, especially during high tide. Bring your beach towels.

The cabin is situated in Oregon, Illinois and the United States. It is bordered by Lowden-Miller State Forest and a beautiful stretch of the Rock River. It is at the end of an artistsian well and windy road. The Nachusa Grasslands (a tallgrass prairie with wild bison) is 4 miles away. Oregon, Dixon and Franklin Grove are historic towns with shopping, dining and nightlife. La Vigna, a wonderful little Italian eatery, is located right down the road from Oregon. The road is gravel but in good shape.
