People Can’t Get Enough Of This Extremely Cozy And Rustic Cabin

  • 4 min read

Take a look inside the Bross Brothers Cabin in Cottleville, Missouri, a cabin with history, originally built in the early 1800s in a settlement that was established where the Boone’s Lick Trail crossed the Dardenne. A country store, wagon repair shop, two little hotels, and two grist mills where wheat and corn were ground into flour and meal were in operation by 1804. The settlement grew as the Boonslick Trail carried many travelers west seeing many wagon trains, stagecoaches, and pony express riders. The settlement was named Cottleville in 1839 and grew to over 500 people in 1860.

The Bross brothers ran a thriving Blacksmith business in the center of town and lived next to the shop in this log cabin. They resided in the old cabin and added on to the back in 1877. During this remodel the fact that logs were hidden beneath the siding and safe from the elements was forgotten for over a hundred years until recently when the property was purchased and the log cabin needed to be removed. Careful tagging of each log was performed before dismantling the cabin and the logs were stored until the property was sold again to Glenn and Cheryl Hill who rebuilt the log cabin on the same property using all the same logs in the same configuration.
